MISSOURI AVENUE/SPRING LAKE PARK SSP – GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE
The Spring Lake Park Green Infrastructure Project is part of the Missouri Avenue Spring Lake Park Sewer Separation project. It includes a wide range of green infrastructure features that enhance the park’s habitat diversity, expand recreational opportunities by restoring a historic pond as an urban fishery, and improve public access to an under-used and sometimes abused natural area within the park.
The design solution attracted $1,300,000 of grant funding to help with restoring the pond and creating an urban fishery. Incorporating the green infrastructure features reduced the overall cost of the sewer separation project by $6,000,000. Phase 1 of the project was completed in 2016, and Phase 2 – located on the park’s golf course – is underway
The project is the recipient of an ASLA Great Plains Chapter 2017 Built Project Award and ASLA Central States Region 2013 Planning and Analysis Award. The project also received a 2017 Engineering Excellence Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Nebraska (ACEC/Nebraska).
