WINTER QUARTERS PIONEER CEMETERY HISTORIC
Winter Quarters was a temporary settlement that served the westward migration of Mormon Pioneers from 1846 to1848. About 365 residents died and were buried on a ridge top west of the settlement. Later the cemetery served the residents of Florence.
As part of a temple site management plan, we prepared a historic preservation plan for the cemetery, including an analysis of the extant contributing features for its eight periods of development. Two treatment recommendations were made, and detailed recommendations on how to best preserve the cemetery’s contributing features and preservation were developed.
