Johnson Park Revitalization Project Received $500,000 Donation

NORFOLK, Neb. – What started out as a vision from Norfolk community members is now the Johnson Park Revitalization Project.

“It’s a joint project to revitalize that area,” said Norfolk Mayor Josh Moenning.

Moenning and the city council approved a $500,000 anonymous donation Monday night at the city council meeting.

“So half a million dollars came to us from the private sector because there’s people that believe that this project is a worthy one and will help advance Norfolk for years to come,” said Moenning.

The renovations include an amphitheater, new playground, and restrooms, new picnic tables, trails, a water feature, but people in Norfolk will have to wait.

“A project like this is pretty substantial,” said Andrew Colvin, City Administrator. “It involves a lot of different pieces of engineering.”
Colvin said they are expecting to bid the project this fall, and hopes work will begin in the winter of 2022.
