Planting Trees That Will Withstand Omaha’s Next Big Storm
Omaha Magazine recently shared some great tips on selecting and planting trees, to help replace the region’s tree canopy after the big storms this summer.
John Fech – an expert in all plants including trees – and Dan Lambe, president of Arbor Day Foundation have great tree planting trips.
One of the tips that is really important, is that new plantings should sometimes be loosely staked – if the tree is located in a windswept area. It is important for trees to move in the wind, and any staking should be removed in 6 to 12 months. If the stakes are too tight or left on too long, they will not establish the root systems needed to support themselves in the long run.
