Omaha Sunken Gardens

Omaha, NE

Omaha Sunken Gardens were created about 1915, and included formal plantings, and open spaces used for recreation and relaxation. Over the decades, the formal plantings declined but the area remained a popular place for football, sledding and hanging out. A group of neighbors banded together and asked Big Muddy to help develop a vision of restoring the beauty of this space.

The plan included a formal garden as the centerpiece of the renovated garden. The grounds used for football and an outdoor ice rink would have some improvements for drainage, and some trees removed to improve the safety of the sledding hill. Big Muddy Workshop developed a plan drawing, perspective sketches, design and construction cost opinion, and report describing the gardens history and restoration goals.
